A total of 71 international election observers have arrived in Sri Lanka to monitor the upcoming presidential election, according to the National Election Commission.
Out of this group, 43 are representatives from the European Union Election Observation Mission.
Additionally, 22 observers from the Commonwealth have also arrived in the country.
Six observers are from the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL).
Furthermore, 34 more European Union observers and 3 additional observers from ANFREL are expected to arrive soon.
Seven representatives from neighbouring countries have also joined the election observation mission this year.
The observation teams currently in the country have already commenced preliminary monitoring activities, covering all 22 electoral districts, the National Election Commission stated.
