Mr. Karunaratne Paranavithana was sworn in as a member of the Ninth Parliament today (03) in front of the Speaker Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
After taking the oath in front of the Speaker, he signed the list of MPs in front of the Secretary General of the Parliament Ms. Kushani Rohanadeera.
Mr. Karunaratne Paranavithana was appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Ms. Thalatha Athukorala, who was a Member of Parliament representing Samagi Jana Balawega in Ratnapura district.
Mr. Karunaratne Paranavithana represented the United National Party as a Member of the Eighth Parliament.
He has served as a Deputy Minister in the Ministries of Media and Parliamentary Affairs, Skill Development and Vocational Training, and Local Government during that period.
