Former Prime Minister of Australia Mr. Scott Morrison says that he believes that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has done an extraordinary job in bringing the country back to stability after the economic crisis two years ago.
He mentioned this while addressing the 2024 Sri Lanka Human Capital Summit held yesterday (18) at Temple Tree House.
He further commented and said:
“Instilling confidence in the future of the Sri Lankan economy and its community is very important. This incentivizes people to stay, invest and take up opportunities.
It must be said that the bold measures taken in terms of revenue reform, debt restructuring, strengthening of corporate financial arrangements and the independence of the Central Bank helped stabilize the country’s economy and underpin the financial recovery.
On top of prudential controls in your banking system, important reforms to your state-owned enterprises will improve transparency in everything from procurement to how foreign investment takes place in Sri Lanka.
The anti-corruption measures led by President Ranil Wickramasinghe, the restructuring of the social security network, etc. are all so important to the future of Sri Lanka that otherwise you would not even get a chance to talk about a labor force in the future. Commitment and determination must be sustained to face those challenges.
It is critical that Sri Lanka actively engages in regional partnerships, particularly through the Quadrilateral Leaders’ Dialogue, where cooperation with India, the United States, Japan and Australia can strengthen security, sovereignty and economic success.
A strong focus on economic stability as the basis for building a fast, export-oriented economy, enabled by strategic partnerships with international allies committed to Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and independence, will be most effective.”
