    Veteran actress Manel Chandralatha passes away

    Veteran film actress Ms. Manel Chandralatha passed away today (16).

    She was 65 when she died of cancer.

    She is an alumnus of Mt. Lavinia Buddhist Girls’ College.

    She started acting in the stage dramas “Manthri” and “Dontha Babakka” created by Freddie Silva, who is known as the comedy king of the cinema, and became more popular as a comedic actress in the cinema.

    At that time Sinhala cinema could not do without the comedy harmony of “Freddy – Manel”.

    Ms. Manel Chandralatha, who started her cinema journey with the movie “Jaya Sikurui” acted in more than 50 blockbuster films including “Nommara 17”, “Colompoor”, “Chereo Doctor”, “Doctor Navariyan”, “Nawa Gilunath Ban Choon”, “Oba Koheda Priye”, “Sathya”, “Jeewan Malli”, “Sakkara Susthara”.

    “Maharaja Ajasath”, “Punchi Andare”, “Seya” are the films she acted in recently.

    Last rites of late Manel Chandralata’s funeral will be announced later.
