The National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC), established by Science and Technology Development Act no 11 of 1994, as an advisory apex body for advising the Government on policies and plans for the development of Science and Technology. According to the authority powers vested by the Act, NASTEC has to convene the Biennial Sri Lanka Conference on Science and Technology (BICOST) with participation of stakeholders of the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) sector in Sri Lanka.
The 10th BICOST (BICOST X: 2025) event will be organized with the Government concurrence on March 2025 in the grand way. In this conference, the STI Policy document will be finalized with intellectuals and stakeholders and forwarded to the Cabinet approval.
Theme of the BICOST X:2025 was launched by the NASTEC on 11th July 2024 at the Ministry of Education, Isurupaya Battaramulla. The Chairperson to the NASTEC, Prof. Veranja Karunaratne address the gathering of intellectuals and the stakeholder in the Sri Lankan STI sector.
The theme of BICOST X: 2025 was presented as “Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap for Economic Development: 2025-2030”. Stakeholders of the STI sector gave valuable insights and appreciated the theme at the interactive session. The Advisory committee and the working committee for this national task was announced by Prof. Veranja Karunaratne, Chairperson to the NASTEC.
The vote of thanks delivered by the Ms Geethani Kannangara, Acting Director to the NASTEC. This event was concluded with the emphasis of higher contribution to the economic development by the STI sector for betterment of the country.
