    Sri Lankan scientist Dr. Piyumi Wijesekera has been chosen to experience Mars

    America’s NASA has announced that Dr. Piyumi Wijesekera, a scientist of Sri Lankan origin, has been selected for a 45-day simulated Mars mission.

    One of the four people selected for this mission, Dr. Piyumi Wijesekera, is scheduled to join the Human Exploration Research Analog simulated Mars mission created in the Johnson Space Center in Houston on May 10.

    Since then, the volunteer crew of four will be engaged in the related mission for 45 days and they will have the experience of coming back to Earth on June 24.

    Meanwhile, the American Embassy in Sri Lanka has also issued a congratulatory message to her.

    It says,

    Congratulations Piumi Wijesekera on being selected as a member of the NASA – National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s four-person simulation mission to Mars!

    From her undergraduate studies in bioengineering at the University of California to her current role as a postdoctoral researcher at the NASA Ames Research Center, her journey is a precedent for young women in STEM fields.

    Congratulations on her contribution to this exciting mission to explore Mars and pave the way for future advancements in space exploration.
