The Essential Commodity Importers Association says that a ship carrying 3000 metric tons of big onion will arrive in Sri Lanka from China by next Monday.
In addition to that, a ship carrying another 3000 metric tons of big onion will arrive in Sri Lanka before the Sinhala Hindu New Year, said Mr. Nihal Seneviratne, the media spokesperson of the said association.
Accordingly, Mr. Nihal Seneviratne said that people can get big onions without shortage.
He also mentioned that the big onions that are brought are expected to be sold at a wholesale price of Rs. 375-400.
Due to India and Pakistan stopping the export of onions, there has been a shortage of big onions in the Sri Lankan market.
