About 4,000 imported containers have been stuck at the port due to professional action initiated by customs officials, according to the Container Transport Owners Association.
Its chairman Mr. Sanath Manjula mentioned that the container transportation activities have been completely stopped at the moment.
Mr. Sanath Manjula mentioned that if the strike ends, it will take 3 or 4 weeks to clear the stacked containers.
Several customs unions have withdrawn from overtime services and engaged in union action since last Friday.
It was protesting against the handing over of an account under the Director General of Customs to the Ministry of Finance.
The strike was joined by the Union of Customs Officers, the Union of Superintendents of Customs and the Union of Customs Staff Officers.
