President Ranil Wickremesinghe has ordered an investigation into the notification made by the Department of Immigration that Russian and Ukrainian tourists, whose free visa period has been extended intermittently, must leave the country within 14 days.
The President’s Office says that the Government of Sri Lanka has not officially decided to cancel the visa extensions previously granted to these tourists.
This notification, which was issued without the prior approval of the Cabinet, is being inquired here.
The Immigration Department issued an order on the 22nd cancelling the extension of free visas given to tourists.
It was reported that this decision was taken based on the complaints received that most of these tourists are engaged in business and stay in Sri Lanka for a long time.
