The air quality has risen to a level harmful to the human body in several districts these days.
The National Building Research Organization states that the situation is high in the districts of Colombo, Jaffna and Kandy.
According to the air quality index, except for the Nuwara Eliya district, the air quality in the other districts of the island is at a level that affects the health of sensitive people.
The National Building Research Organization stated that the air quality index in the districts of Colombo, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Trincomalee, Badulla, Kurunegala, Kandy and Matale is at a level that could cause adverse health effects.
The organization points out that the dry weather conditions and harmful dust particles blowing from neighboring countries have caused the situation.
Due to this, the National Building Research Organization stated that it is important for people suffering from heart diseases, respiratory diseases, elderly people and small children to wear face masks outdoors.
The organization stated that especially forest fires, garbage burning and traffic cause the increase in air pollution.
