The government is focusing on holding provincial council and local government elections next year.
In the limited financial capacity of the government, the amount allocated for the elections in the budget has to be managed for holding the presidential election and the general election, so the cabinet has decided to provide the money required to hold the above two elections in the next budget.
In the meeting held yesterday, the Cabinet of Ministers agreed to take the necessary steps in this regard based on the facts presented by the President.
The budget estimates for the year 2024 have earmarked 10 billion rupees for holding elections.
However, in the meeting held yesterday, the Cabinet of Ministers has further taken into consideration that before holding the provincial council and local government elections next year, amendments to the election laws should be introduced with the approval of the Parliament.
Here is the cabinet statement.
