Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasizes that no one will be allowed to destroy the heritage of our country.
He was speaking at the 131st National Archaeological Commemoration Ceremony.
The National Archaeological Commemoration Ceremony was held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Somawathiya and Ridi Viharaya were named as Archaeological Research Centers and the new website of the Department of Archeology www.archaeology.gov.lk was launched online.
“Our President is also a leader who works day and night to protect archeological sites. He went to those places and took steps to prevent them from being destroyed. A Presidential Task Force has been established for this purpose. That is why the land that should be protected like the Sea Temple (muhidu maha viharaya) has been protected to this extent today. Those historic sites are national heritage sites. It is not something that is inherited by one nation or one religion. The heritage of this country. Therefore, while protecting these places, there should be no divisions between races, religions and ethnicities. Anyone who attempts to destroy an archeological site should be punished. If those punishments are not enough, we can amend those laws in the future. ” The Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa further stated.
