Thilanga Took a Decision and Informs Maithripala

Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala has informed its leader, former President Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, that he is ready to resign from the position of General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

But before that, Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala has informed in writing that the petition filed before the court by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, regarding the position of UPFA General Secretary should be withdrawn first and then he will resign.

Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala was appointed as the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance with the approval of the Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

But Minister Mahinda Amaraweera filed a petition before the court challenging the appointment.

Due to the fact that this case exists before the court, the politicians there lost the opportunity to contest from the United People’s Freedom Alliance in the last local government election.

Citing these facts, Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala has condemned in his letter regarding the agreements made by Mr. Maithripala Sirisena with Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and others who are connected to President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government.

    His letter is below.
