The CCTV program started by the Sri Lanka Police to track traffic offenders in Colombo city will be operational from today (January 22).

Accordingly, traffic offenders are to be found by police CCTV cameras positioned at 33 critical locations in Colombo.

In this case, the fines of the offenders will be sent to the address of the registered owners of the vehicle.

However, the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association (LPBOA) has opposed this CCTV program.

Gemunu Wijeratne, chairman of LPBOA, said that if this program is implemented, the bus priority lane law should also be implemented.

He further said that due to the plying of three-wheelers and other vehicles in that lane, problems arise for the running of buses.
