According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, about 61,000 acres of paddy fields that were cultivated in the Maha season have been damaged due to the recent heavy rains and floods across the island.
The ministry said that the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board has been instructed to immediately start the damage assessment of the damaged fields.
Just like the assessment of crop damage caused by the drought last spring season, the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board is going to use drone technology to assess the damage caused by the flood.
