The Price of Tea Fertilizer will Decrease Significantly

It has been decided to reduce the price of all T 750, T 709 and T 200 fertilizers used for tea cultivation by 2,000 rupees.

The Ministry of Agriculture said that the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, took the decision yesterday (16).

Accordingly, the price of tea fertilizer available in the market will be reduced by 50%.

Currently, the price of a bundle of the above-mentioned fertilizers in the market has exceeded 13,000 rupees.

Thus, the minister has instructed Dr. Jagath Perera, the chairman of the government-owned Colombo Commercial Fertilizer Company and Ceylon Fertilizer Company, to take necessary steps to reduce the price of a bundle of T 750 and T 709 tea fertilizers to 7,735 rupees and the price of a bundle of T 200 fertilizer to 5,500 rupees.

This fertilizer concession will be given to all small and medium-scale tea planters, and it was also decided to provide all the above types of fertilizers for large-scale tea plantation companies at an amount of 9,735 rupees.

Yesterday morning at the Ministry of Plantation Industries, there was a discussion with the representatives of the tea planters’ associations of the eight tea planting districts, and all the officials dealing with tea cultivation in the Ministry of Plantation Industries have also participated in the event.

The representatives have announced that special fertilizers for tea cultivation produced by government-owned fertilizer companies are of the highest quality.

In addition to this 2,000 rupees fertilizer concession, the amount spent is 1200 million rupees, and that amount is to be borne by the Tea Board.

The Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera said that this relief is given as a step to make the application of fertilizers mandatory for tea cultivation in our country for the betterment of the tea industry.
