Rain saved Sri Lanka from the indignity of a whitewash

Once again as the top order batsmen failed to conquer the field, Sri Lanka team faced another horrific start at Bristol Cricket ground in England.

After winning the toss, England Captain Eoin Morgan decided to let Sri Lanka bat first.

Within the mandatory powerplay, SL grabbed 45 runs losing 4 wickets. At the end of 41.1 overs Sri Lanka all out for 166 runs including 13 extras. Dasun Shanaka is the only standout performer for SL with 48* runs from 65 balls. Only him and W. Hasaranga passed the 20 run mark.

Tom Curran demolished Sri Lanka team with his excellent bowling attack. He ended up with 4 wickets within his 10 overs. Chris Woakes and David Willey shared 4 wickets with 2 for each.

The rain started pouring even before England start to play. As there was no sign of a clear sky, referees decided to call off the match.  So Sri Lanka can squelch away with a draw (and five precious WCSL points), and there’ll be no 6-0 for England, either.
