The launch of the Freedom People’s Alliance took place this evening (11) at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters on Daly Road.
The main parties, alliances and organizations representing the Freedom People’s Alliance, which is contesting the local government elections under the sign of the helicopter, signed the memorandum of understanding.
Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala works as the secretary of the Free People’s Alliance. Joining the occasion of establishing the Free People’s Alliance, Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, the Chairman of the Supreme Lanka Coalition, said,
This alliance is prepared to save this country from the road of disaster. A Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader was very upset about this. But we have appointed a board of directors. A single person is not considered a leader. This new alliance is ready to do whatever it takes for the betterment of this country. Let us all bring victory to the motherland together.
Mr. Dallas Alahapperuma, leader of the Freedom People’s Assembly said,
This is not another political alliance. There are 12 recognized political parties and organizations in this country. 12 parties, from Sri Lanka’s oldest political party Sri Lanka Sama Samaja Party to the youngest political party, ‘Nidahasa Janatha Peramuna’. Within these 12 parties, there are 36 MPs representing the Parliament. It is with humble pride that we tell the country that these 17 MPs represent 17 of the 22 election districts in Sri Lanka. Now, this government is playing the role of the funeral director of the Sri Lankan community. So our effort is to liberate the country from here. We aim to put an end to this chauvinistic politics.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party Chairman Maithripala Sirisena said,
To build our country, democracy must be strengthened. For everyone to rise again, there must be the house of God called democracy. With the new knowledge, the countries of the world have turned to the policy of freedom and democracy. We can win 90% of the whole country in the upcoming local government elections, with the Freedom People’s Alliance going to the people after today. We also compete in the North and East. We are working to build a good country, a country that strengthens democracy and freedom, a country that recovers from the economic crisis.
