According to Mr. Keerthi Sri Weerasinghe, Chairman of the Coconut Development Authority, the demand for local king coconuts in the Dubai market has increased by three times.
He said that about 252,000 king coconuts are exported from this country to the United Arab Emirates.
By exporting king coconuts, an income of Rs. 02 billion has been earned in 2022, and the expected income this year is Rs. 06 billion.
He said that the country has lost a lot of foreign exchange due to the fact that many monetary transactions related to the export of king coconuts took place in the Undial system and therefore, with the intervention of the Coconut Development Authority, a regulatory system has been set up for the export of king coconuts.
The chairman pointed out that a local king coconut receives 0.8 dollars (roughly Rs. 296) in the United Arab Emirates port.
Also, a king coconut from this country fetches a price of Rs. 500 in the Dubai market.
Meanwhile, he revealed that a king coconut exported to the United Arab Emirates is sold at a high price of Rs. 2500 in the coastal region of the country.
