The Canadian government has taken steps to impose sanctions on several Sri Lankans including former presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Accordingly, the Government of Canada announced today that it has imposed relevant sanctions against those who severely and systematically violated human rights during the civil conflict in Sri Lanka from 1983 to 2009.
In addition to the former presidents, former members of the security forces, Staff Sergeant Sunil Ratnayake and Lt. Commander Chandana Prasad Hettiarachchi, have also been sanctioned, according to the announcement of the Canadian government.
The Canadian government has indicated that Canadians are prohibited from engaging in any financial transactions with persons who have been imposed relevant sanctions. Meanwhile, it has been mentioned that the persons listed in this manner will not be admitted to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Earlier, the United States of America had sanctioned several members of the Sri Lankan security forces and there they were also accused of being involved in human rights violations.

Very good of Canada, but America will not lay sanctions like Canada, they will take these rougues with all the cash they have. In reality i hopeam America takes a page from Canada and ban these Rajapakses from even coming close to their border
