The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation says that Sapugaskanda Refinery will resume production from tomorrow (16).
The refinery was out of production for days without imported crude oil.
Sapugaskanda Refinery produces 40% of the domestic fuel requirement and releases it to the market.
The ship Murban carrying 90,000 metric tons of imported crude oil, has docked in Colombo.
It will be unloaded at the Sapugaskanda Refinery Tank Complex.
The procurement activities required to import another 90,000 metric tons of crude oil have also been completed to maintain the stable production of the refinery in the future.
Despite being closed for many days, due to proper maintenance work being carried out under the supervision of engineers, the refinery will be able to start and continue production at full capacity in the future, says the Petroleum Corporation.
Accordingly, from the refinery production process with full capacity, 1600 metric tons of diesel, 550 metric tons of petrol, 950 metric tons of kerosene and aviation fuel, in addition to 1450 and 450 metric tons of fuel oil and naphtha and 80 metric tons of LP gas can be issued per day to the local market.
The corporation says that the expectation is earning foreign exchange through the production and distribution of high-quality jet fuel from the refinery, continuous supply of fuel oil and naphtha required for electricity generation by the Electricity Board, sufficient supply of kerosene oil for low-income families and the fishing industry, reducing the government’s gas import costs and for a continuous supply of gas.
Ceylon Petroleum Corporation works to supply all fuel requirements including diesel, petrol, kerosene and aviation fuel without shortage and of proper quality.
