People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election or PAFFREL organization has stated in a letter to the Chairman of the Election Commission that it is expected that the election will be announced within this week as there is no legal obstacle for the Election Commission to announce the local government election.
In the current situation, the Election Commission should take responsibility if the government delays the election without announcing it, creating a legal obstacle for postponing the election.
It is stated in the letter sent to the Election Commission by the Paffrel organization that since there is no obstacle to holding an election due to the adoption of the twenty-first amendment to the Constitution and the fact that a new Election Commission has not been established, there is no need to ask the Attorney General about it.
In the letter sent to the Election Commission by the PAFFREL Organization, it has been stated that under such interim conditions, former Election Commissioners Mr. Dayananda Dissanayake and Mr. Mahinda Deshapriya conducted several polls.
