    An oil tanker from China

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has said that a shipment of diesel from China is expected by the end of November as Sri Lanka is facing a deep financial crisis.

He stated this while answering the questions raised by foreign journalists on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference held in Abu Dhabi.

He added that his country bought Russian oil through trading companies in Dubai and Singapore, but still did not buy directly from Russia.

Today is the second day of the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2022 conference.

In this conference, the energy ministers of the respective countries discussed the main energy problems of their nations.

The Minister of Electricity and Energy of Sri Lanka Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera also drew attention to the opportunities presented by the energy transition.

“This is the most difficult tenth month for Sri Lanka. We have run out of energy imports and due to that we are facing severe financial constraints. But it has created an opportunity, and we have developed our legal and policy framework around that opportunity.

We made it possible for private suppliers to come into the energy market to invest in Sri Lanka. We now have a plan to use 70/30 renewable energy by 2030.” The minister said there.

Hosted by ADNOCGroup, ADIPEC is the world’s largest and most influential energy gathering attended by energy industry professionals, investors, manufacturers, policy makers, etc.

The platform facilitates dialogue between high-level energy industry stakeholders.
