It has been decided to name Pinnawala Zoo as the country’s first night safari zoo.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation stated that the decision was taken after a discussion between the minister in charge of the subject, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, and the business community associated with the Pinnawala Zoo and Elephant Shelter.
The business community has also submitted a proposal to the minister regarding the activities to be implemented in the region.
Accordingly, it has been decided to maintain Pinnawala Animal Park and Elephant Shelter as a night safari park.
At present, it has been revealed that the work in that region ends at around 05:00 pm, and because of this, the business activities are disrupted and the government is losing a lot of money on a daily basis.
