Officers of the Police Special Task Force have arrested a person in Ampara with a Valampuri that was stolen from Papua New Guinea and prepared to be sold for Rs. one million.
According to an intelligence received by Chief Inspector Chandana Kumara, the commander of the Special Task Force Ampara camp, this Valampuri was raided yesterday.
The person who tried to sell Valampuri over the phone was contacted and brought to Ampara and then arrested.
The suspect is a 44-year-old resident of Uragasmanhandiya area.
During the questioning of this person about the Valampuri, the facts were revealed that this Valampuri was stolen from a shop selling antiques in Papua New Guinea, where he worked, and came to Sri Lanka by air and brought this Valampuri deceiving the eyes of Sri Lankan customs officials.
