Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando says that a written request will be made today (27) to release the wheat flour stocks currently held by Serendib and Prima companies to the market.
The Trade Minister has also instructed the Ministry Secretary to get a report from wheat flour importers regarding wheat flour production prices and capacities.
Also, with the shortage of wheat flour, the price of a 50 kg bundle of wheat flour has so far increased to Rs. 20,000.
He mentioned that the stoppage of import of wheat flour through India has affected this situation.
The Minister further said that currently, wheat flour is being imported through Turkey and it will take about 02 weeks.
