Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said yesterday that the import of fuel will have to be restricted in the next 12 months.
He claims that the situation will remain the same due to the foreign exchange crisis in Sri Lanka.
He further explained that the national fuel pass system with QR code was introduced as the daily fuel demand could not be met based on the current situation.
Giving further information, the minister said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has never distributed fuel to every fuel station on a daily basis at any given time.
The minister further said that even if the stock is available, tthat is practically impossible.
Even with the QR code system, there are thugs demanding space for 5 and 10 vehicles in the line. Also, although there is a quota for each, the pumping station is taking a bribe and pumping full tank to people. I wish this is closely monitored by our forces, We hear that we have more forces than of Britain in Sri Lanka. Why cant they monitor into these detailed corruption and make our country a livable one. They are being paid by the public like us who are being deprived of our rights where public service is concerned.
CPC fuel businesses going on cash on delivery basis sufficient funds available to continues fuel imports why this restrictions
