The All Ceylon Poultry Businessmen’s Association states that due to the obstacles in the importation of poultry food, the small and medium scale poultry industry has fallen into trouble.
Ajith Gunasekara, President of the All Ceylon Poultry Businessmen’s Association said that many people have left the poultry industry and therefore the prices of chicken meat and eggs have risen.
He mentioned that the price of an egg will increase to between 50 and 55 rupees in the future.
Mr. Ajith Gunasekara also said that if the obstacles to the import of poultry food are removed, the production of eggs and chicken meat, which are essential protein foods, can be increased and they can be provided to the people at a low price.
Mr. Gunasekara said that if further restrictions are imposed on the import of poultry food, many businessmen are ready to stay away from the industry completely.
