The President has issued a gazette notification appointing two new Cabinet Ministries.
The two Ministries are the Ministry of Technology and Investment Promotion and the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and Social Empowerment.
Several powers and institutions held by the President in the Ministry of Defense have been removed and transferred to the Ministry of Technology and Investment Promotion.
Accordingly, immigration and emigration, regulation of telecommunications, provision of IT facilities, cyber security, registration of persons, promotion of investment, promotion of economic development zones etc. have been removed from the purview of the Ministry of Defense and transferred to the new Ministry.
The Children and Women’s Affairs Division which was under the Ministry of Education and the Social Empowerment which was not under the present Cabinet have been newly appointed under one Cabinet Ministry post.
In the past, separate Cabinet Ministers were appointed for Children’s and Women’s Affairs and Social Empowerment, but no separate Cabinet Ministers were appointed in the list of newly appointed Ministers who are appointed in the recent past.
Instead, Children’s and Women’s Affairs and Social Empowerment which was controlled under the Minister Susil Premajayantha’s Minister of Education came under the purview of Piyal Nishantha’s State Ministry of Women and Child Development, Preschool and Primary Education, School Infrastructure and Education Services.
Social empowerment did not fall within the purview of any present Minister or Minister of State earlier.
