Shashi Weerawansa, who was sentenced to two years in prison, was released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe today.
She was sentenced to two years in prison for illegally possessing a diplomatic passport, and her lawyers appealed regarding it. Mrs. Weerawansa was released on bail after considering the request to grant bail until the appeal is heard.
Accordingly, she has been released on a travel ban with a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and two personal bails of Rs. 50 lakhs each.
