    Ranil has been sworn in as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka

    The Leader of the United National Party (UNP) Ranil Wickremesinghe has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

    Mr. Wickremesinghe was sworn in as the Prime Minister before President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today.

    He is being appointed as the Prime Minister at a time when the country is in a state of crisis.

    After losing the 2020 parliamentary elections, Ranil Wickremasinghe is the only member elected to the parliament from the national list seat won by the UNP party.

    He has served as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka five times before becoming the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka today.

    He served as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 1993 to 1994, 2001 to 2004, 2015 to 2015 (100 days), 2015 to 2018, and 2018 to 2019.

    Ranil Wickremesinghe has been the Leader of the United National Party since 1994 and served as the Leader of the Opposition from 1994 to 2001 and from 2004 to 2015.

    Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday and has been replaced by Wickramasinghe.

    Ranil Wickremasinghe is currently 73 years old.
