The Samagi Jana Balawega today handed over to the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena the draft of the new amendments to the Constitution, including the abolition of the executive presidency.
The Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa handed over the draft to the Secretary General of the Samagi Jana Balawega Ranjith Maddumabandara at the Leader of the Opposition’s office this morning and handed it over to the Speaker.
It includes the abolition of the executive presidency, the repeal of the 20th Amendment, the establishment of independent commissions and the establishment of a National Security Council.
Nothing new or unexpected.
