The Sri Lankan Economic Centers Association states that the vegetable trade has dropped by 40 percent due to the current fuel and gas crisis in the country.
Its chairman Aruna Shantha Hettiarachchi says that due to the shortage of diesel, it has become impossible for traders to go to the farms in vehicles to buy farmers’ yield or bring their yield to markets.
He said that as hotels including restaurants, holiday resorts have been temporarily closed due to the shortage of gas, the vegetable trade in all economic centers of the country has fallen down.
