North Western Province Governor Raja Collure, who was receiving treatment for Covid, has passed away today (07).
Raja Collure is a seasoned politician who began his political career as a pioneer leader and President of the Ceylon National Students Union, the first student union in Sri Lanka.
He was one of the founding members of the first Legislative Council of the Sri Lanka Bar Association and also served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.
He was a former Member of Parliament and former Chairman of the Official Languages Commission.
He is an internationally recognized leftist with connections to many international leaders and was also the editor of several world-renowned newspapers operated from Prague, Czechoslovakia, from 1981 to 1985.
He was one of the leaders in rebuilding the Ceylon National Students ‘Union after 32 years and also served as the President of the 12th National Congress of the Ceylon National Students’ Union and contributed to the enrichment of socialist ideas until his death.
