A Pradeshiya Sabha member who had been harassing the public by drinking alcohol has been tied to a lighting post and handed over to the police in the Galpatha Bahurupola area in Kalutara by the public.
The incident happened last night.
The person that was handed over to the Gasbeda police is a member of the Panadura Pradeshiya Sabha of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna. According to the police, he had contested from the SLPP representing a minority party.
According to the police, this politician had come to Galpatha with another group, had been drinking and had behaved indecently.
He had been tied to a post and informed to the Police Emergency Response Unit. Accordingly, the police took him into custody and took him to the Nagoda Hospital where he was presented to a doctor, where it was confirmed that he was drunk, said SSP Kapila Premadasa in charge of the Kalutara Division.
He further stated that the MP will be produced before the court today.
