The Development Officers’ Service Union says that they are protesting against the government’s decision of replacing teachers with other substitutes.
We agree with the government’s decision to reopen the schools on the 21st of this month, but the government should take action to resolve the salary issue and make the teachers return to the schools on that day, said the Secretary of the Development Officers’ Service Association, Chandana Sooriyarachchi.
He also said that only trained teachers can teach children but not the other government officials.
Mr. Sooriyarachchi said that the government was preparing to forcibly reopen schools by employing trainee development officers, Grama Niladharis and other employees and they can’t agree to that.
