Pfizer should be given to Old people and not for Young people – Association of Specialist Physicians

    0

The Association of Physicians said that the Pfizer vaccine should be given to people over 60 and not for young people.

The decision to give Pfizer vaccine to people between the ages of 20 and 30 in the Hambantota area is not correct, said Dr. Lakkumar Fernando, President of the Association of Specialist Physicians.

He also said that the number of deaths could be reduced by giving the Pfizer vaccine as a third dose to people over the age of 60 who are suffering from non-communicable diseases.

He also said that research has shown that people under the age of 60 who have received both doses of the Sinopharm vaccine have a very good immune system.

Lakkumar Fernando also said that people over the age of 60 should be given the Pfizer vaccine as a third dose as their immunizations are not working properly.

He said research had shown that people over the age of 60 who had been vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca were less likely to get sick than those over the age of 60 who had been vaccinated with Sinopharm.

Scientists not backing Covid jabs for 12 to 15-year-olds

    0

The UK’s vaccine advisory body has refused to give the green light to vaccinating healthy children aged 12-15 years on health grounds alone.

The JCVI said children were at such a low risk from the virus that jabs would offer only a marginal benefit.
The UK’s four chief medical officers have now been asked to have the final say, and to consider the wider impact on schools and society.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said a decision would be made shortly.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation did advise widening the existing vaccine programme to include an extra 200,000 teenagers with specific underlying conditions.

Doctors identified that children with chronic heart, lung and liver conditions were at much higher risk of Covid than healthy children.

    ‘Insufficient evidence’
The decision not to recommend the vaccine to all healthy children was based on concern over an extremely rare side effect of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which causes heart inflammation and can lead to palpitations and chest pain.

Data from the US, where millions of young teenagers have been vaccinated, suggests there are 60 cases of the heart condition for every million, second doses given to 12 to 17-year-old boys (compared to eight in one million girls).

France, Italy, Israel and Ireland are also offering the vaccine to all children in this age group.

But as children are at such low risk from the virus, the JCVI decided that vaccination would offer only “marginal gain” and, therefore, there was “insufficient” evidence to offer mass vaccination to this age group.

The JCVI said it was difficult to factor in long Covid in its advice because of the uncertainty over how common it is in children, although it appears to be less prevalent than in adults.

“New Zealand’s anti-terrorism act will be tightened” – NZ Prime Minister

    0

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has vowed to tighten anti-terrorism laws starting this month.

The move comes after a stabbing attack on seven people at a Linmol supermarket in Auckland by a man who was being watched by the country’s security forces.

“I promise we will complete the work as soon as Parliament resumes – that is, we will pass the law as soon as possible and not wait until the end of this month,” Ardern told a news conference.

The country’s anti-terrorism bill has been accused of plotting and preparing to lead to a terrorist attack and allowing the conspirators to remain free.

The extremist assailant was shot dead by police in the aftermath of the incident.

Many have accused him of being arrested and released by the New Zealand security forces on several occasions since 2016, as well as why he would not have been deported if they had known his threat despite being under surveillance.

The 32-year-old Sri Lankan assailant, who was jailed for about three years before being released last July, was shot dead by police shortly after he began his shooting on Friday.

The man was identified as a lone wolf, inspired by the Islamic State militant group.

He was constantly monitored, but could not be further imprisoned by law, Ardern said.

The attacker, a Sri Lankan national who had been in New Zealand for 10 years, was inspired by the Islamic State militant group and was being “monitored constantly”, Ardern said.

“A violent extremist undertook a terrorist attack on innocent New Zealanders,” Ardern told a briefing.

“He obviously was a supporter of ISIS ideology,” she said, referring to Islamic State.

The attacker, who was not identified, had been a “person of interest” for about five years, Ardern said, adding that he had been killed within 60 seconds of beginning his attack in the city of Auckland.
