The Association of Physicians said that the Pfizer vaccine should be given to people over 60 and not for young people.
The decision to give Pfizer vaccine to people between the ages of 20 and 30 in the Hambantota area is not correct, said Dr. Lakkumar Fernando, President of the Association of Specialist Physicians.
He also said that the number of deaths could be reduced by giving the Pfizer vaccine as a third dose to people over the age of 60 who are suffering from non-communicable diseases.
He also said that research has shown that people under the age of 60 who have received both doses of the Sinopharm vaccine have a very good immune system.
Lakkumar Fernando also said that people over the age of 60 should be given the Pfizer vaccine as a third dose as their immunizations are not working properly.
He said research had shown that people over the age of 60 who had been vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca were less likely to get sick than those over the age of 60 who had been vaccinated with Sinopharm.
