The United National Party (UNP), in coincidence with its 75th anniversary, has embarked on a journey with the protection of four heavenly kings called ‘Satara Waram Deviyo’, its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
He made these remarks in his address to the function to mark the event on Zoom.
“Mahamanya D.S. Senanayake secured independence for Sri Lanka which remained under British colonial rule for 134 years. He built the UNP to ensure the forward march of the country as a Sri Lanlan nation. Today, we mark the 75th anniversary of our party with pride and dignity. We opened the path of development to Sri Lanka,” he said.
Reiterating that the country is in the midst of the pandemic, he said 20,000-30,000 people were likely to perish according to experts’ analysis. He said so many others would lose employment because of the economic downturn.
