Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to renovate the dormant crematoriums for the cremation of Covid bodies in the Gampaha District.
Over the past few days, there have been reports of corpses being piled up in hospitals in Gampaha.
Accordingly, the Minister has instructed that all crematoriums currently owned by local government bodies be handed over for the cremation of Corona corpses.
In the Gampaha District, about 500,000 people over the age of 30 and 300,000 between the ages of 18 and 30 have not yet been vaccinated. The number of school children between the ages of 12 and 18 who need to be vaccinated is around 300,000, according to district health officials.
The Provincial Director of Health has been instructed to increase the number of Covid wards as per the requirement of the hospitals in the district where the number of infected patients is being exceeded due to the rapidly spreading Delta Covid variety.
The Minister also instructed to inquire into the present condition of the two treatment centers which are yet to be opened at the Werellawatta Intermediate Treatment Center which was implemented in three phases and to make use of those treatment centers for treatment as soon as possible.
