As another step in the trade union action taken by teachers and principals over a salary issue, teachers’ principals today marched in front of the Presidential Secretariat in a motorcade for about two hours.
As a result of the protest, there was heavy traffic on the main road in front of the Presidential Secretariat. Protesters were also stationed at the main entrance to the Presidential Secretariat, preventing visitors from entering or leaving any vehicles entering the Presidential Secretariat.
The police took steps to constantly inform the protestants over the Health Guidelines. Public health inspectors also appeared to be on the scene, monitoring protesters and taking photos and videos from their mobile phones.
Demonstrations began in Kadawatha, Pannipitiya, Welisara and Moratuwa. Teachers and principals say that a march has already started in Kandy and will reach Colombo in five days.
