Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramanayake informed Parliament today (May 20) that the Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed against the proposed Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill.
The petition had been submitted to the Supreme Court under Article 121(1) of the Constitution, challenging the legality of the bill.
The Supreme Court notified Parliament that the petitioner was granted permission to withdraw the case, rendering the petition ineffective.
