The Court of Appeal today (17) dismissed the writ petition filed by Deshabandu Tennakoon, which sought an interim order preventing the enforcement of a Matara Magistrate’s Court order for his arrest in connection with a shooting incident in Matara, Weligama, in 2023.
As a result, the court ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to immediately arrest Deshabandu Tennakoon and present him before the court.
The ruling was delivered this morning by the Court of Appeal bench, comprising Acting President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Mohamed Laffar Thahir, and Justice Sarath Disanayake. The order was issued following the review of a writ petition submitted by Tennakoon on the 12th of this month.
