The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) and the Association of Medical Specialists (AMS) have launched a 24-hour token strike from 8:00 AM today (12) in protest against the sexual assault of a female doctor at Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
In a media statement, the AMS expressed strong condemnation of the incident, stating that the doctor was attacked while on duty in her on-call room. The association emphasized that such acts of violence threaten the safety of healthcare workers.
The AMS urged the government to take immediate action to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Meanwhile, several nursing unions in the North Central Province have also announced their support for the protest by withdrawing from their duties today.
