    Sri Lanka Army Deploys Additional Troops to Assist People Affected by Adverse Weather Condition

    Under the guidance of the Ministry of Defence and the instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Sri Lanka Army has deployed troops to assist people affected by the ongoing adverse weather conditions. The overflowing of rivers has resulted in widespread flooding across the island, prompting immediate action to provide much-needed relief and support to those impacted by this disaster. In line with these efforts, the Commander of the Army has instructed the Commander of 1 Corps and all Security Forces Commanders to increase the number of troops involved in rescue and relief operations.

    Accordingly, troops have been deployed to the following locations for relief work:

    • Malwana – Army team (with a boat)
    • Katugoda – Army team
    • Watareka – Army team (with a boat)
    • Seethawaka – Army team
    • Meethotamulla – Two Army teams (with four unibuffel vehicles)
    • Kolonnawa – Army team (with two ironhorse vehicles)
    • Nawagamuwa – Army team (with two boats)
    • Pelawatta – Army team (with a unibuffel vehicle)
    • Yatadolawatta – Army team (with a unibuffel vehicle)

    Additionally, the Army has placed 23 WMZ vehicles, 34 unibuffels and unicorn vehicles, and 56 boats on standby, along with 6,500 troops prepared for deployment in case of emergency situations in the districts of Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Mathara, Rathnapura, Hambanthota, Gampaha and Puttalam.
