According to the official results of the 2024 Presidential Election, no candidate has secured more than 50% of the vote, resulting in the elimination of all candidates except for Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sajith Premadasa, who received the highest and second-highest number of votes, respectively.
The Election Commission Chairman stated that the vote counts from the eliminated candidates will now be reallocated to the two remaining candidates based on preferences.
In the 42-year history of Sri Lankan presidential elections, Ranil Wickremesinghe has become the leading candidate with the most instances of defeat without being able to secure the presidency through public voting.
