The meeting of the district leaders of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, which supports President Ranil Wickremesinghe, was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, Kanchana Wijesekera, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana and other district leaders participated in this.
They discussed at length about the method of contesting the general election, provincial council and local government elections which will be held after the presidential election.
Politburo structure of the new party
“This is it…now we have some questions. Let’s find a suitable party and register. After that, other political parties will gather around it.” SB spoke first.
“Let’s first form a political board headed by the Prime Minister. The Politburo consists of members of parliament and non-members.” Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said.
“Yes.. let’s establish the position structure of national organizer, secretary, treasurer, convener.” Said Mr. Prasanna.
“The most important thing for us now is to win the presidential election. After the presidential election, let’s take up the work of building this new party and alliance” the district leaders applauded and expressed happiness when the Prime Minister said that.
How to join forces?
Then another discussion was held with the coalition of all the members of Parliament in Pohottuwa who support the President. It was also held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Leaders representing other political parties also participated in that.
“Many people ask us about our future supporting the president. We have discussed it now. We are forming a new party. We have the appropriate program for that,” said Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana.
“How do we ally? Will you go separately? Or will you go as a party?” That question is from State Minister Dr. Sitha Arambepola.
“No. We are making alliances as a party. More parties are gathering around us.” SB explained.
“I went around the country to meet local government councillors. In all those places, the request came that a program is needed to run for the next election. This is the program. We take that responsibility.” Minister Prasanna also explained.
“Then what is the name of the party?” Another question.
“Currently there are several names. A suitable name will be given later.” Minister Prasanna repeated.
The organization of meetings at the local level in support of the President was also discussed. The use of money for that purpose was also discussed here.
