State Minister for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that the interim allowance of 3000 rupees to be paid to pensioners will be implemented from October.

The Minister points out that in addition to the arrears of 3000 rupees due in September, the pensioners will be entitled to 6000 rupees in addition to their pension in October.

In addition to the Rs.2500 allowance paid since last April, the government had taken steps to pay this allowance until the salary discrepancies were adjusted.

After that, in addition to the 2500 rupees allowance received so far since November, the minister said that the newly given interim allowance of 3000 rupees will be paid to the pensioners.

The Minister who further commented said that since the Ministry of Finance has also given full written approval for the payment of this additional allowance of 3000 rupees, the Ministry of Public Administration should issue the circular for this purpose.

He pointed out that since an election has been announced, the Election Commission has objected to giving that allowance in September.

Accordingly, the minister further stated that with the interim allowance of 3000 rupees due to them in October and the arrears allowance of 3000 rupees to be received in September, the pensioners can get 6000 rupees in addition to the pension of October.

The proposal presented by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the Cabinet was recently passed.
