Mr. Namal Rajapaksa was appointed as the presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the upcoming presidential election.
The name of the candidate was officially announced by General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam at the Podujana Peramuna party headquarters in Nelum Mawatha, Colombo.
Namal Rajapaksa is the eldest son of former President, and former Prime Minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa.
He contested the 2010 parliamentary election as a candidate of the United People’s Freedom Alliance in Hambantota district and was elected to parliament for the first time.
Mr. Namal Rajapaksa served as the Minister of Youth and Sports from 2020 to 2022 during the tenure of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
