Dayasiri’s group of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to support the opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, the candidate of Samagi Jana Balawega in the upcoming presidential election.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party Secretary General Dayasiri Jayasekara says that this decision was taken after a discussion with its organizers and stakeholders who met today.
The Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s Nimal Siripala party had recently announced that it would support President Ranil Wickramasinghe in the upcoming presidential election.
However, Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, who served as the Acting Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, is also running as a candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
For that, he resigned from the position of Minister of Justice, which he was holding recently.
Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa is running as a candidate for the presidency of the National Democratic Front.
However, recently Mr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa announced his candidacy for the presidential election and said that he will contest the next presidential election with the support of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
